In a recent statement issued by the spokesperson for United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, strong condemnation has been expressed regarding the tragic killing of a Tunisian peacekeeper. This incident occurred during the night of 11 February, when an unidentified armed individual attacked peacekeepers of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) near the village of Zobassinda on the Ndele-Akursoubak axis. The peacekeepers were engaged in a long-range patrol intended to protect civilians in the Bamingui-Bangoran prefecture.

The Secretary-General extended his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this loss, as well as to the government and citizens of Tunisia. Such incidents are deeply distressing, and the Secretary-General has emphasized that attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
